What the ScoMo Victory Means for Christians

The believer has been given a mandate

God has intervened to give us a professing and practicing Christian as the PM with the Liberal-National government having the power to legislate to protect free speech, the rights of the unborn, the rights of children to be taught the truth about gender, and to curtail the damage caused by the ideology of climate change. These are political and legal battles to be fought by the elected representatives. Our role is to support them in prayer.

On the other hand, if this victory makes us arrogant and more complacent, it was all in vain. This victory does not place us in a position of power. Believers need to admit the fact that we are still weak and vulnerable, and need God’s help more than ever to reach out with the Gospel and to help make Australia a righteous and just nation.

So what must we do starting now?

Our Primary Responsibility

  1. Our role as Christians is to pray for these elected representatives in parliament (1 Tim. 2:1-2) so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is not so that we who are saved and have the truth can live in comfort, but that God’s desire for everyone to be saved and to understand the truth (1 Tim. 2:4) will be accomplished.
    _
  2. We must use the environment of relative safety created by this victory to win more souls for the kingdom. Freedom of speech has no benefit for the Christian unless we exercise it by being bold in proclaiming the truth in love. We need to express our faith in public and in private in a manner not to offend but to point people to the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus (Acts 20:21). Of course we will be sometimes misunderstood, as happened to Israel Folau. But, we will have better legal safeguards in place to protect us.
    _
  3. The Body of Christ needs a revival! We need to repent, pray, teach, exhort, and be committed to see a revival first in our own lives and then in the outer circles of our influence.
    _

Other Areas to Influence

  1. We need to teach that God does not approve of premarital sex (fornication), extra-marital sex (adultery) or abortions. We need to find a solution other than abortion for unplanned pregnancies. No contraception is 100% effective and contraception can fail even when used correctly and consistently.1 As people who value life we need to create the systems, raise the finances and organise the facilities to adopt children who have been preserved from being aborted. Stopping abortion will become an unbearable burden unless we have the means to deal with it. It is estimated that in 2014 over 70,000 babies were aborted in Australia.2 What if they were not aborted and allowed to live? Do we have the orphanages and foster parenting support to do that? The church needs to get involved in this.
    _
  2. We need to ensure that at home, schools and church, children are taught the truth about gender. We need to skill up parents, youth leaders, pastors, teachers on the right way to help those who have gender confusion. We need to teach believers to be accepting, tolerant and loving towards those who may be going through difficulties with gender issues. Jesus never condemned those who were condemned by society but loved them and encouraged them to do the right thing. The church must become a refuge and a place of help for those who are struggling with gender issues.
    _
  3. We need to teach in church that it is only God who can control the weather on earth. Whilst we must encourage reduction of waste, and plastic and air pollution, we must show people that God is in charge of the weather: Deut. 11:13-14 says, If you carefully obey all the commands I am giving you today, and if you love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and soul, then He will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil. Even those attending church regularly are being conned into believing the Climate Myth.3 The church needs to get involved in educating their own flock through good teaching, and solicit the support of true climate scientists.
    _
  4. We need to stand against any form of deception by being vocal. Pseudo-science is being used as a political tool. Christian scientists and doctors must stand for the truth without fear, in every area. This includes medicines, the climate, the effects of additives in food, the reasons for the increase in mental health issues, gender identity issues, etc. We need to expose lies and misinformation in every situation whether it is told by those whom we favour or by others. We need to maintain integrity in all what we do. We need to exhort church and government leaders and the media to be accountable. Believers need to be actively involved in this.
    _
  5. Our God shows no partiality (Deut. 10:17-18) and instructed the first nation under Him to look after and give true justice to the widows, orphans and foreigners living amongst them (Deut. 24:17). This places a precedent on our nation, the Southland of the Holy Spirit, to look after the refugees and asylum seekers who are living amongst us. It is high time the Body of Christ stood up for and looked after these people. We need to be the instruments through whom God can create a more compassionate society.

If an organisation like Get Up can peddle half-truths and mobilise millions of people, believers who stand for truth should be able to do much more to ensure that elected representatives in parliament are honourable people with Judeo-Christian values and are people of integrity.

The church needs to work towards unity because not only is there strength in unity but because God is pleased by unity (Psalm 133). Pastors and church leaders have a responsibility to stop theological nitpicking and take serious action to respect what Jesus prayed:

I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, so they may be one as We are one. I am in them and You are in Me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that You sent Me and that You love them as much as You love Me.
John 17:21-23 NLT

The time for action is now. We cannot afford to wait until the next election to get ready. We may not get another chance.

    Hi Rabi,
The only question I have (everything else is great), #8 refers to:
    1. Asylum Seekers and
    2. Refugees.

Am I wrong when I interpret these to be the illegal Immigrants we have seen trying to get into Australia in recent years?

Or would you be referring to people who have been admitted into Australia under current law and you are urging the Church to take a greater role in settling legally arrived new Australians?

Thank you for your comment Peter. Good point. I should have been a little more clear about it. At present there are thousands of refugees and asylum seekers who have been legally allowed in. My understanding is that the asylum seekers in particular are doing it tough. The refugees are not having things easy either. Here is a quote from a councillor:

“Poverty is still a critical issue, particularly for those people seeking asylum whose Centrelink managed payments have been cut off. Four years ago, few people seeking asylum had work rights. Now most do, so employment is an issue we can and must tackle. Mental health issues have also become more prominent” – Councillor Dandenong, Matthew Kirwan.

Community groups and some Christian charities are helping. But here is an opportunity for the Church to really show the love of Jesus by being more involved.

Great message, yes we need to stand and be counted while we can. We may not have this chance again. Praise God for our Christian Prime Minister. Stand up churches ????????????????

Thank you Rabi for your timely article. I agree that it is important for Christians to keep praying for a righteous nation to be revealed for God’s glory. We have seen a victory, a way forward but the issues that caused so much concern are still there in the mindset of the community. Keep praying church.

Praise the LORD! I thank God Almighty for bringing Scott Morisson and his cabinet to lead our Nation and country Australia.I praise God for wining the election. Scott Morisson wining the election is very important to me and for our nation because being a child of God, Believer of God the One and Only Living God, will bring stability and peace and prosperity to our nation and country. Jesus Christ said, “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you. You did not choose Me, but i chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in my name, He may gave to you. Remember God promised King David that If his children will walk like how he walked with God, that their kingdom will never end. But David children didn’t obey God’s commandment, they worship other gods and you all know what happened, their kingdom was divided. When King David was about to die he gave Solomon advice and is also good for us all. In 1 Chronicles 28: 9-10, As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intents of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. verse 10 Consider now, The LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be courageous and act. PM Scott Morisson and his cabinet and other parliamentarian are not building a sanctuary for God but they are going to build a NATION. They are going to build this Nation and country that will bring honour, glory and magnification of God’s name. You have been chosen to build Australia into a Godly and stable Godly nation and government. i believe that God chose Scott Morisson because God saw his heart and his honest desire to serve Him by leading this Nation, Australia. i also believed that God chose Scott Morisson and his cabinet to save Australia from Total destruction because of what was happening here in our country this past two years. God have chosen Scott Morisson and his team to stabilize this country and protecting Australia into becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah. Remember God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of their wickedness. God also is saving and protecting our children and our future generation because of the Abortion and other bad laws that they are bringing up in the parliament. If all women abort their children, i can see that their will be no future new generation for Australia. I believe ABORTION LAW be abolish like what they did in Alabama. Why don’t we remove Abortion law?
Here is King David’s advice to his son Solomon. In Chronicles 28:6 And He said to me, ‘Your son Solomon is the one who shall build My house and My courts; for i have chosen him to be a son to Me, and i will be a father to him.( v7) And I will establish his kingdom forever, if he resolutely performs My commandments and My ordinances, as is done now,(v.9) As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.
In the book of Joshua 1: 7 we also read, Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have i not commanded you? Be strong and be courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Absolutely, Juanita! It was the power of prayer. God answered and Scott Morrison was elected. The polls were wrong.

Amen to all that you have outlined. I have a passion to see ‘righteousness and justice’ restored to this nation. as God declares – Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to its people’. I am praising and thanking God for His ‘miracle’ in the recent election. I also know that we have to continue being diligent in prayer, worship and thanksgiving to God and ‘strong and courageous’ in speaking Truth boldly into those situations where God is not exalted. Australia has been given a 3 year ‘window of opportunity’ to ‘rebuild our broken down walls’ with God’s help and direction. We cant afford to ‘grow weary in well-doing’.

The election of the Morrison government is not the end of our endeavours for the nation, and for our freedom, but the beginning.

We need to build on this by praying for and actively lobbying and supporting the new government.
