Day 24: Can a Nation Be Born Again in a Day?
Intention
We must travail for souls. Can a nation be born again in a day? We are on a trajectory for revival in Australia.
Scripture
“Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.”
—Isaiah 66:8
Reflection
When Jesus instructed His disciples in the upper room to tarry until they were clothed with power from on high, they were constructively waiting. Revival is birthed in the intimate travailing of a person submitting to the work of the Holy Spirit in the inner being. The truth is that birthing revival may appear laboursome and involve great exertion.
In Isaiah 66, Isaiah is referring to Zion travailing much like a mother giving birth to her son. This means experiencing the writhing pains of childbirth before the delight and satisfaction of embracing a newborn baby.
We are actively praying for revival and a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and yet we are presently experiencing the earth groaning with birth pangs. As it says in Romans 8:22, “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”
On the day of Pentecost, three thousand people were saved and the church was birthed. Those waiting in the upper room were baptised in the Holy Spirit and reconciled back to God through the Saviour. The Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh on that day, and now the Holy Spirit will pour out upon our nation of Australia.
There has always been a time of wrestling and preparation for the church before receiving an increase. This is the agony of the intense desire for change, and the anguish of injustice. Weeping may come, but there will be joy after the mourning. Godly travail will birth revival and the formation of Christ in you. Recall the words of Paul: “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you.” (Galatians 4:19)
We must cry out to God in the secret place and travail for souls. Let us break the bondage of idolatry, sin, and injustice; deal with wickedness; and release the spirit of sonship. “For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
Prayer
Lord, give me a burning desire for souls. Give me an insatiable hunger to cry out for the lost souls in the valley of decision. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. Break the bondage of idolatry in our nation, and release Heaven’s justice. I pray for deep repentance, and I release the spirit of sonship into the hearts of the unsaved. Use me as an instrument of intercession to birth revival. Lord, give me faith that a nation can be born again in a day. Show me how to travail to birth revival in Australia, and form Christ in me. Pour out Your spirit upon all flesh, just like You did on the day of Pentecost. Come like tongues of fire and baptise me in Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
