Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world,
both low and high, rich and poor alike:
My mouth will speak words of wisdom;
the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.
I will turn my ear to a proverb;
with the harp I will expound my riddle:
Why should I fear when evil days come,
when wicked deceivers surround me —
those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches?
No-one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them —
the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough —
so that they should live on forever and not see decay.
~ Psalm 49
One fact that is true of us all. We all die. And no-one can buy eternal life.
But Christianity has such good news — the Son of God is our ransom.
He is the one Who has bought His church with His own blood — and Who has given us eternal life.
“What is all that the earth can afford us, if God deny health?
And this a man in the poorest condition may enjoy.
Where people differ from one another, is just title and for a short time; death levels all.”

A Prayer of Repentance:
Our Father in Heaven, we fail to give You thanks in all things.
In all our fears, we do not trust You. In our pride we think we can heal ourselves.
Forgive us and enable us to cast all our cares on You – because You care for us. Amen.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving:
Lord Jesus – who can redeem a single human life? Only You.
We praise You that You have and will redeem a number that no-one can count.
We rejoice in our Blood-bought freedom. Enable us to live for Your glory. Amen.
