Day 22: A Voice for the Voiceless
Intention
We must stand in the gap for our unborn children.
Scripture
Open your mouth for the speechless. In the cause of all who are appointed to die, open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the needy.
—Proverbs 31:8-9Defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; free them from the hand of the wicked.
—Psalm 82:3-4
Reflection
Let us stand in the gap to pray for mercy for this sin in our nation. The Psalmist asks,
“Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the works of iniquity? … Shall the throne of iniquity which devises evil by law have fellowship with you? They gather together against the life of the righteous and condemn innocent blood.”
— Psalm 94:16, 20-21
Let us repent for our failure to pray for our lawmakers, our politicians and judiciary. For failing to encourage those who have been brave enough to stand up for righteousness. For failing to use the keys of authority God has given us to bind and loose, to allow and disallow, to put a “stop” sign up in the heavenlies against the strategies of the wicked one.
God has called His church to rule and reign in the heavenlies; to declare His truth and His Word. The church must use her position of authority to pray for change in our nation.
Hear the words of the prophet Joel:
“‘Now therefore,’ says the Lord, ‘Turn to Me with all Your heart; with fasting, with weeping and with mourning. So rend Your heart and not Your garments… Weep between the porch and the altar. Let them say, ‘spare Your people, O Lord’.’”
— Joel 2:12, 17
Let us bring forth the wisdom of God for this season and hour in our nation using the keys He has given us: the name of Jesus; the blood of Jesus; and the Word of God.
Prayer
Father, we repent where we have failed to protect our unborn children; where we have allowed this sin to be a reproach to our nation. Father, we ask for Your mercy for allowing these laws to exist.
Lord, we pray that You raise up leaders who will be a voice for the voiceless: politicians, lawyers and activists who will be catalysts for change. May the voice of many intercessors cry out for mercy and grace. Let a tidal wave of repentance wash over the conscience of our nation. Let this sin not be a reproach to this nation, and may life be cherished, defended and brought forth.
Turn the hearts of the fathers to the children as they hear the cry of the unborn. Raise up an army of protectors of the innocents.
We pray that many would open their mouths in prayer and intercession for the speechless. We pray for every woman considering aborting her child. We bind every evil agenda from influencing her. May she encounter support and godly counsel to choose life. Father, hear the voice of Your church as we cry out for mercy and life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are the empowered ones to take up the battle to see an end to abortion. It takes courage and unity to not give up but to listen to the Lord’s strategy — to abide in Him asking for wisdom, knowing that the timing of the destruction of the enemies’ work is in God’s timing.

Last Wednesday night, the Canberra Declaration officially launched our 21 days of prayer and fasting for life (the unborn). Each year in Australia, about the same number of people are lost to abortion as all the wars we've ever been involved in. This is a tragedy of tragedies.
