COVID19 Call to Prayer – October 30: Death Came to All People
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way, death came to all people, because all sinned…”
~ Romans 5:12
It seems to have come to a shock to many modern people — but death did not come into the world through Covid-19. With the number of cases and deaths being reported every day, the subject and fear of death is everywhere.
But we know that death did not come through Covid-19 — it may or may not accelerate death, but there is nobody living who is not also dying.
And that is why Jesus came — to free those who are held in slavery all their lives by their fear of death. When the world is bombarded constantly with bad news — let’s make sure we bring them the good!
Petition: Please join with us in praying for:
1. Australia – The Reserve Bank believes the nation is out of recession, with the economy returning to growth in the September quarter, as punishing restrictions in Victoria were outweighed by recoveries in other states. RBA deputy governor Guy Debelle told a Senate estimates hearing on Tuesday a revival was under way and the impact of 111 days of lockdown in Victoria might not be a deep as feared.
“Our best guess is it looks like the September quarter for the country recorded positive growth rather than slightly negative,” Dr Debelle said.
2. The World – The situation in Europe and the US is getting worse. Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Poland and the UK are seeing substantial increases — although the UK official figures are 25,000, it is estimated that 100,000 people per day in the UK are being infected. India is also seeing substantial increases, but South America and Africa seem to be stable.
3. The Church – Pray for the Church in the US, which is in danger of becoming as polarised as the rest of the country over both Covid-19 and the Presidential election. Pray for the whole nation during the final push up to election day next Thursday.
This is a special hymn from Keith and Kristyn Getty which has now become a classic. In the light of the passage above, what a joy to know that ‘death is dead, Christ has won, love has conquered’.
Prayer:
Father God, we praise You that You sent Your Son to die
— that we might be delivered from death.
We bless You that death is dead, and Christ has conquered.
The sting is gone, the curse is defeated.
Help us to share the good news of eternal life
with the world for whom You died, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
