Day 3: Impact on the Family

24 January 2023

2.6 MINS

It is important to recognise that a lot of people are hurt by abortion. Men, parents of daughters, a roommate, or a friend may all be experiencing grief from the abortion of one of their loved ones. It’s important to empathise with that grief and assist them to walk through their journey.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV reminds us we have a comforter:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
Who comforts us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble,
with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Many times, the family suffers guilt and shame and can even feel angry as they grieve the loss of an aborted baby. Other times the family may be unaware of the abortion, but feel that something has happened to their loved one (the aborted baby’s mother) — she has now shut her emotions off to the pain she might otherwise feel — she is distancing herself from them, her own emotions, practical situations or celebrations that may include babies. Only our merciful God can bring restoration and help, with forgiveness and grace to help in the healing process for everyone.

“Therefore, the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
therefore, He will rise up to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for Him.”
(Isaiah 30:18 NKJV)

Prayer

Thank You, Father, for the gift of Your Son who paid such a costly price and fulfilled all the requirement, for all people to be forgiven and free — what amazing grace. We ask for Your grace to help those who are suffering loss and grief over an aborted baby find comfort and release. May they find Your loving arms open wide to bring restoration, peace and the ability to forgive those involved in this tragedy. In Jesus’ redeeming Name, Amen.

Prayer Points

  • For the family and friends of the aborted child who are left grieving, or feeling the weight of regret, for their part in the child having lost their life through abortion. Ask for the Lord to bring comfort to those who mourn and restoration to men, parents, family, and friends.

These three current Pro-Life Issues before Parliaments:

  • Pray that the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022 be passed speedily in 2023. This Bill will protect babies who are currently, in most states of Australia, being left to die after a failed abortion. This protection for such babies is currently law in New South Wales (2019) and South Australia (2021) as amendments to the state Termination of Pregnancy Acts. This Federal Bill, if passed, will make this legislation National. Pray for protection for the three Federal Senators Alex Antic (Liberal Party), Matthew Canavan (National Party) and Ralph Babet (United Australia Party) who presented this Bill on 30 November 2022.
  • On 28 September 2022, the Federal Senate referred an Inquiry into Universal Access to Reproductive Healthcare (abortion) to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs. This enquiry is all about broadening abortion access and entrenching it into federal law, overriding state laws. Pray that the Lord stops this from occurring.
  • The passing in South Australia of the Statutes Amendment (Loss of Fetus) Amendment Bill 2022. Presented by MLC Sarah Game (One Nation). This bill would acknowledge the loss of an in-utero baby due to a criminal act, such as assault of the mother or dangerous driving — offences in their own right. This Bill is about justice and recognition of a life lost. Sadly abortion is not recognised as a criminal offence, but this bill will for the first time recognise the personhood of the unborn child.

We pray for every state and territory of Australia to come together to stand for life and for the church to rise up and “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 11 February and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” October, and for other states to join in and hold rallies or walks in their cities.

    Thank you Ann Browne. I think perhaps you may be a veteran in the service of Jesus Christ. You bring His word His light to darkness many will see it and run toward it. May they also greet you in paradise.

    The reality is that those who support abortion do not see that tiny face in your covering picture, that alive engaged face – as the same “ thing “ as that which they insist they have a right to kill.
    We must find a way to communicate the truth to them. We must use our language not as they use it. We must prevent the dismemberment of our own language.

    My heart goes out to all the women who were pressured, lied to, and given no support, but left to walk that scary journey alone. Be assured your Saviour has those precious ones with Him, and the little ones are looking forward to seeing you when the Father calls you home.
