Archbishop Makarios of Australia releases Statement on NSW Abortion Bill
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
His Eminence, Archbishop Makarios has released a Statement in relation to the new radical abortion Bill introduced in NSW Parliament today.
The new Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019 would mean:
- Abortion on demand up to 22 weeks;
- Abortion between 22 weeks and up to the day of birth, when two doctors agree that, “in all the circumstances” the abortion should be performed. “Circumstances” that must be considered include “current and future physical, psychological and social circumstances”.
- Doctors will be forced to take part in the abortion, or refer to another Doctor who will. Conscientious objection would not be permitted;
- Sex-selective abortion (which may have already resulted in the deaths of over 23 million girls worldwide); and
- No cooling-off period.
In His Statement, Archbishop Makarios said,
“The Orthodox Christian Faith and Tradition unequivocally teach that life begins at conception, that the life of the unborn is sacred and infinitely valued by God, and therefore must be considered with the same dignity and worth we enjoy ourselves.”
“Tragically, the right to life of the indefensible unborn child is increasingly violated despite the protection and advancement of many other human rights.”
“We humbly and urgently request every member of the Church and every responsible person that cherishes the sanctity of life, ask their local state Member of Parliament to oppose this draconian Bill. It is their sacred duty.” You can share His Statement on Facebook here.
Please CLICK HERE to email your State MP and ask them not to support this radical new abortion Bill.
Prayerfully yours,
PANTANASSA MONASTERY
