How Christians Can Respond to Coronavirus
Light is brightest in the darkness.
Salt stands out only when a dish is flavourless.
Peace is profound in a an atmosphere of panic.
Coronavirus has sent the world into chaos. Supermarkets are being stripped bare, financial markets are crashing, nations are shutting their borders, over 100,000 have been infected and over 3,000 have died.
The only thing more viral than Coronavirus is the fear around it.
Panic is bringing out the worst in a lot of people, and fear is in the air.
So how should a Christian respond?
We really have two options: Fear or Faith?
The way of God or the way of the world?
I believe that Coronavirus is one of the Church’s greatest opportunities given to us, to present Jesus, in modern times.
Coronavirus is now on every continent on earth, aside from Antarctica, and with that fear has gone global.
Jesus was called the Prince of Peace. He stepped into a climate of fear, and His message of peace with God and people soon went global!
We have an opportunity right now to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus to a world that is desperate for peace, desperate for hope, desperate for healing.
The Bible says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18)
God is perfect love. It’s time to share our amazing God with the world around us.
During a recent trip to the local grocery store, my friend and I, in just under an hour had over 15 conversations with people about Jesus. We were able to pray for people, sow seeds, and encourage believers.
We had store attendants surrounding us in thankfulness for the fact that we would see them and encourage them, rather than swear at them because supplies are so low or have run out!
What if Christians in this time saw this as an opportunity for the Gospel, not just an inconvenience to our normal life?
What if, as we interact with people online and in person, we said, “Jesus loves you?” “Can I pray for you?” “Do you need peace? Jesus is the Prince of Peace, can I pray for you?”
What if instead of withdrawing in this time, becoming protectionists and selfish, we leaned into the needs of our neighbourhoods in this time?
We must receive the peace of God. Share the peace of God, and Pray for Healing.
