Make Hay While the Son Shines

People who are called by God’s name, in our country, have humbled themselves. Tens of thousands have fasted and prayed. We have repented on behalf of the nation.

As our loving God asked us to!

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.
— 2 Chronicles 7:14

God promised us, that if we humbled ourselves and prayed, He would begin to heal our land. We believed His word and we did our part.

Now, we can see Him beginning to act!

This election, God moved mightily, against all the odds, to confound His enemies. He gave us a righteous leader, with the numbers and authority to pass righteous laws.

More than that, He gave us the most generous gift of all. A reprieve!

More time to do His will!

God not only heard our prayers but graciously allowed us extra time to comply with the third part of His request. For His promise of healing has three conditions, and so far, we’ve only completed two of them.

1. We who are ‘called by His name’,
2. have ‘humbled ourselves, prayed and sought His face’,
3. and now we have the time to ‘turn from wickedness’.

But what does that mean?

Humble prayer from God’s people was only the beginning. If we want to see God continue to heal our land, we need to also do the final step. Help our country turn from wickedness!

This is where the rubber meets the road!

Now is not the time for us to be complacent; to relax or think the battle is won. We only have a few years to stand for righteousness and help our leaders get our country back on track.

For who knows what will happen at the next election?

God has given us a golden opportunity to ‘make hay while the Son shines.’ This is a time for action! God is moving in our land. Hallelujah! Let us rise up and move with him so that healing can come.

But how do we turn our country from wickedness?

In the Book of Acts, the disciples were placed in a similar situation. Their response teaches us what we need to do now to move the hand of God to bring healing.

Speak His word with boldness!

Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain? Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with complete boldness, as you stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus. — Acts 4:25-30

So how do we speak with boldness?

Modern technology helps us. We can raise our voice, at home, at work, on holiday, visiting relatives, in fact, anywhere we are, by just sending an email to the right place that boldly upholds the word of God and supports positive change in our society.

The saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword,” is true. Today we would change that to say, “the keyboard is mightier than the gun”.

Every email, letter to a politician, letter to the editor, social media post, new article, comment on existing articles, Instagram post, Christian petition signature or tweet can be an arrow pointed directly at the heart of wickedness in our nation.

When such digital communications are written by righteous men and women who speak His word with boldness, they can bring real change.

We, you and I, can bring change!

In the same way this election amazed God’s enemies, so every victory God’s servants win over the next few years will confound them afresh.

If you’d like to be part of a triumphant voice for change in our country this is what you can do!

  • Pray! It always starts with prayer. Billy Graham said, “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.”
  • Educate yourself on what is happening in our nation in the area of Christian Values. Proverbs 29:18, “Without a vision, the people perish.”
  • Make a decision to do something either as an independent advocate for Christian Values or join a political party to influence the party you decide to join towards Christian Values. Edmund Burke said, “All that is needed for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.”
  • Sign the Canberra Declaration and become part of the Canberra Declaration community advocating for freedom, family, faith and Life. Alexander Hamilton said, “If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.”
  • Invite your friends, family and church members to also sign up and be a voice for change. Stella McCartney said, “Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.”

If we all do our part, we can make a difference. The worst thing we can do is do nothing. Jesus said in John 9:4, “As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no-one can work.”

God has given us a tremendous opportunity to “make hay while the Son shines.”

Let’s make this opportunity count!

Nevertheless, on 16 May 2011, they made a bold decision to take what they knew to the media, then watched in awe as God not only protected them from prosecution but exposed the greatest intelligence scandal in Australia’s history. It’s a remarkable story. You can read more at In His Name.

Thank you Monica for a great article full of encouragement to God’s people to press on to our high calling in Jesus Christ, to represent Him through being salt and light in our nation. To maintain the momentum of the move of God that has begun in our land and so amazingly declared through the election results. To also remember that the way our nation will turn from wickedness and sin begins with each one of God’s children recognising and turning from our own individual sins, for all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. The Lord wants and needs a holy people who seek the cleansing of their own hearts first and foremost. It is both the seemingly “little sins” as well as the “big sins” which need to be repented of. It is the little foxes that spoil the vine. Sin is anything which separates us from God, ourselves or others. May we all ask the Lord to create in each of us clean and pure hearts as we seek and pray for our land to turn from wickedness. May we pray “Start with me Lord, I want to be a clean and pure vessel for You to fill with Your Spirit, so You can overflow pure living water through me to all around me.” May God’s river of love, life and Holy Spirit power flow to us and through us to bring Him Glory. As God’s people are cleansed and filled with His Spirit, the tide of wickedness will be turned back and the waves of righteousness will begin to wash our land.

Now that’s good news!! A great encouragement to keep moving forward in God’s will and desire for our Nation. May the Body of Christ arise and speak with boldness and watch our God respond! Love it! Keep putting the word out! Bless you Monica.

Dear Monica, 2 Chronicles 7:14 is not a promise for us today. Our land does not need healing. 2Chronicles 7:14. This verse is quoted out of context and claimed today as a promise for Christians. But it is not for today at all. It was for a specific time and purpose. It was for the Israel of Solomon’s day. It is not for our Country in Spiritual decline.
Solomon prepared and built a temple for Yahweh in Jerusalem and dedicated it with prayer. Yahweh fills the temple with His glory. After the sacrifices, Yahweh appears to Solomon with a promise AND a warning. Verse 19-20 says that if they turned aside and forsook God’s commandments, then He would take them from the land and cast them out.
God is speaking to Solomon, responding to his prayer in Chapter 6. The blessing and warning was given to Israel – not us. My people – are the Israelite nation – God’s chosen people – not us. The land – is the promised land of Israel. Heal their land – is physical, not spiritual. The calamities came on the people because they were disobedient. God says they would prosper again if they returned to Him. The blessings were with obedience, curses with disobedience. Verse 19 says that if they turned aside, God would pluck them out of the land. And He did – in the exile by Assyria and Babylon. The meaning was for Israel. It does not mean God will take us out of Australia to a foreign land. Australia is not God’s chosen nation or land. The promise was to this temple and to their land – Israel. NOW in the New Covenant, God’s people have no earthly country that is their land. The country we belong to is a Heavenly one. Hebrews 11:16 We don’t pray for our land to be healed – our land is a Heavenly one.
The Bible is about God – His nature, mercy and grace. His love and faithfulness. He keeps his promises. God desires to commune with us. In the New Covenant, we have His peace, and God works in us, for us to become more holy
God does desire us to be humble, pray and seek His face, and turn from our wickedness. But we cannot claim this text when it was not meant for us. It is not magic for spiritual revival.
We do continue to pray for Australia. We seek God’s mercy and grace for blessing and prosperity.
Much love to you, Yours Sincerely, Anne Box.

      Dear Anne,

I’d like to discuss a couple of your comments.

      1. I quote your words above, My people – are the Israelite nation – God’s chosen people – not us. I find your comment concerning after all Christ did include ‘us’ as ‘those who will believe in me through their word’, quote from John 17 20-23. Jesus prayed that we will be one with him, so how much more can we be ‘his people’ than this? Also in Galatians 3:28 where it explains that there are no differences in the those who are in Christ Jesus. Surely this means we are his people.

      2. God’s promises, as far as I’m aware, have never been ‘ended’ unlike the old law has been ended by Christ, as it says in Romans 10:4. I am not aware that God’s promises from the old covenant have ended in the new, so wouldn’t this mean that his promises are also for believers today? After all you said, he keeps his promises. He has promised healing. As healing for the land was possible under the old covenant, surely it also is possible under the new covenant? After all, if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them. So why wouldn’t he heal our land today if we humble ourselves and pray asking for him to do that? This is what it is all about, the gathering of believers to pray and ask God for mercy over our nation. Also repentance brings healing so we need to pray as a nation for forgiveness and to receive God’s mercy concerning the evil laws that have been passed, so our nation can be blessed and not cursed.

      3. When you said – We don’t pray for our land to be healed – our land is a Heavenly one. The scripture you used can be used to say our land is a heavenly one but you haven’t really used it in context either. We shouldn’t be arguing about ‘words’ but I feel we all need to be on the same page in order to be a voice that will go forth and make a difference.

That being said, in the interest of the spirit of this whole discussion, we as a people of God can pray for what we wish to. We should not be told we are not to or we can’t. As far as our land being a heavenly one, yes it is true Australia was dedicated as the ‘Great South Land of the Holy Spirit’ and may be considered heavenly.

However, I think the point here is that the word ‘land’ really means ‘nation’. We need to pray for our nation and ask for forgiveness from God for the many unrighteous and ungodly laws that have been passed in recent years. These laws that are an abomination before our beautiful God. We as a nation need to repent on their behalf of those law makers and ask for God to ‘heal’ the damage that has been done as a result. We need to ask God to step in and make a way for our leaders to somehow reverse and change these unrighteous laws. We need to ask God to restore our nation to a land of righteousness. We need God’s intervention to do this. What better way to do this but with prayer?

The point Monica was making is that our country or nation or land is in trouble. We need change or we are heading for disaster and placing our nation under the judgement of God. As the rain falls on the just and unjust that means believers will suffer as a result of our nations leaders actions.

There needs to be a voice and we are called to stand up for righteousness. Monica has given us practical ways to bring about change in our land, nation or country and this advice is sound. Thank you Monica for your advice. In fact I have followed Monica’s advice.

      Much love to you Anne.

Thank you for your comment Anne.

Like you, I don’t believe any Scripture verses are magical. And I don’t believe 2 Chron.7:14 is magical. However, all Scripture shows us the nature of our loving Heavenly Father and what pleases and displeases him. All of Scripture, old and new, shows us that disobedience to his law will bring plague, famine and sword (Deut.28) while repentance and obedience will bring healing, abundance and peace. This is an eternal principal.

We who live under the New Covenant are blessed every day, but everyone else is still under God’s original law and they are still being judged by his original law. God’s law didn’t cease at Calvary, in fact, Christ told us the law would continue until heaven and earth passed away (Matt.5:18).

This is why the curses/punishments of Revelation are a mirror image of the curses/punishments of God for sin attached to the law written by Moses, for God has never decreed any other judgments for sin except those laid out in his established law. This is what salvation is about – freedom from the punishment of God for sin.

Repentance, means ‘turning away from’ and this is why, if we want to see the blessing of his healing, prosperity and peace in Australia, we need to encourage our leaders to actively ‘turn away from’ things that displease God. This is a spiritual absolute. God’s blessings have only ever been activated through repentance.

I agree that God’s New Covenant people have no earthly home, however, we are encouraged to pray for the welfare of our leaders wherever we are, for ‘righteousness’ exults a nation (Prov.4:34). We are also told to ‘tear down everything that exults itself against knowledge of God (2 Cor.10:4).

So, do I believe the promises contained in 2 Chron.7:14 apply today? Yes, I do. For God hasn’t changed. He still hates sin and the destruction it brings. He still longs to bless and bring healing. He still can’t act to bless while sin blocks the way. And it is still our responsibility to ‘turn away from’ wickedness so that he can bring the blessing.

Thank you Anne, for giving me the opportunity to explain my thinking further. God bless. Monica

I thank you Monica for your advice and I have taken it. We need to stand up for righteousness and you have shown us practical ways to do this. I have enjoyed very much what you have written and your wonderful words of wisdom. I think readers should take what you have written in the spirit it was written, the love for God and his righteousness. We can all argue what Scripture means but in the long run it is the message that has been brought forward that is the most important. I pray readers don’t lose sight of the message that comes through your writing. I look forward to future articles you will be writing.

    Blessings, Miriam Wentworth.
