My Government Turned Me into an ‘Anti-Vaxxer’

30 September 2022

3.8 MINS

A government power grab created the anti-vax movement.

I’ll come clean. Like most people defending their position on the Covid jabs, I used to start my apology with, ‘I’m no anti-vaxxer!’

Having probably received more vaccines than most, given I am both a doctor and fairly well-travelled, I naively thought this approach might earn credibility with vaccine enthusiasts. I should have saved my breath.

Over the last two years, the government-endorsed segregation and dehumanisation of those who exercised their right to refuse the jab, has forced me to change my identity.

Veering Off Course

When Australia locked down in 2020, I soon tired of the daily command ‘Stay Home, Save Lives!’ mantra, turned the TV off, and started researching.

I discovered the government-imposed lockdown measures were replacing perfectly good pandemic plans that were updated August 2019. These were plans which, from what I could tell, hardly saw the light of day despite how much they cost to put together.

Australia, and much of the world, was ‘off script’.

No attention was being given to the well-documented costs of lockdowns and no effort was directed toward early treatment options. Nor were there attempts to improve the immune health of Australians through measures like nutrition, reducing alcohol consumption, and exercising. None.

With all this hand-washing, comfort eating, drinking, isolating, and fear-mongering, Australians were sitting ducks as far as their health was concerned. Meanwhile, the government and Chief Health Officers told us to sit tight and wait for the ‘saviour’ vaccine to arrive.

In August 2020, when Scott Morrison announced: ‘I would expect (the vaccine) to be as mandatory as you could possibly make it,’ I felt my eyebrows rise. Just how was our Prime Minister going to do that? The ethical, medical, and legal implications concerned me.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) position statement on Covid vaccination arrived in the mail in March 2021, and I felt my eyebrows rise again. AHPRA effectively told doctors to fall in line with government policy, warning that regulatory action may follow if a practitioner promoted anti-vaccination statements or undermined the immunisation campaign. More groundwork being laid.

Finally, in June 2021, Lt. General John Frewen was appointed as head of the National Covid Vaccine Taskforce. It became apparent we were part of a military-style operation, especially considering there were actual military forces policing our streets.

Seeking Sensibility

When the vaccine arrived in Australia, I decided to perform a personal risk-benefit analysis.

As a cancer survivor (I’m well now, thanks for asking), it had taken years to regain full health and I was keen to stay that way. The Covid risk calculator estimated my chance of survival at over 99 per cent. Not bad.

I then looked at the mRNA vaccines. Early data from overseas showed some concerning safety signals and surprising evidence of similar transmission rates by both vaccinated and unvaccinated. I could only surmise: we had new drug technology, with limited data, worrying safety signals, and indications it didn’t prevent infection or transmission.

For me, the risks did not outweigh the benefits, especially if it meant I could still infect my patients.

When the Tasmanian government mandated vaccines for all healthcare workers, I personally went, research in hand, and spoke to as many politicians as I could, recommending they adopt a risk management approach.

I spent hours writing, phoning, and visiting — arguing the point based on scientific evidence, ethics, and medical resource management.

I reasoned our state couldn’t afford to lose any healthcare professionals who would rather walk than take the vaccine.

I pleaded for the middle ground and a strategic approach including personal protective equipment (PPE), rapid antigen testing, and Telehealth — not just vaccination — to preserve both autonomy and the workforce so the healthcare system didn’t suffer further.

Many sympathised behind closed doors, but were unwilling to speak publicly (except Senator Eric Abetz, thanks Eric).

When the mandates came into effect, I chose to remain unvaccinated along with hundreds of others and was forced to stop work. I wasn’t even allowed to do Telehealth (can someone please explain that to me?). It felt punitive.

Consequences

Now the truth is coming out.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced no difference between vaccinated and unvaccinated as the vaccines don’t prevent infection or transmission.

In addition, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has received more adverse reports in 2021 through June 2022 (18 months) for Covid vaccines than over the past 50 years for all other vaccines combined. This is not simply because of the number of Covid vaccinations.

Around the world, there has been a significantly higher rate of reported adverse events and deaths for Covid vaccinations when compared with non-Covid vaccines like measles, polio, and flu vaccines.

And finally, the latest hospital admission statistics do not support the claim that the unvaccinated are more at risk of serious Covid disease, hospitalisation or death.

Just how bad is it? We don’t know. There is no long-term toxicity, carcinogenicity (cancer-causing), genotoxicity (effect on genes), or fertility studies.

This ‘thing’ that we have been doing the past two years, is not healthcare. I don’t know what it is, but it is not healthcare, and it was obvious from the start. It is not benefiting the ‘greater good’. It is not looking after grandma. It is not ‘doing our bit and protecting others’. It is not saving lives.

It never was.

As the fog of Covid-war lifts, I suspect we will realise more people have been harmed because of this single-minded ‘vaccine-or-bust’ approach than any other intervention foisted on the people before now. It truly is an iatrogenic crisis caused by bureaucrat-prescribed ‘medical’ treatment.

If an ‘anti-vaxxer’ is someone who cannot give informed consent to a ‘vaccine’ that fails to prevent infection or transmission, has alarming safety signals, must be taken to earn back the right to live and work in society, for a disease that has a greater-than-99 per cent survivability rate, then ‘yes’, I’m an anti-vaxxer…

My government made it so.

This is a blistering article from a very experinced and reputable health professional!

    • Kim Beazley 2 October 2022 at 1:27 pm - Reply

If only that were the case.

That pandemic plan she refers to was specifically for an Influenza pandemic, a completely different scenario when you consider the fact that Influenza is a familiar disease and there are existing vaccines, whereas the COVID-19 pandemic was a completely novel scenario, with the only known factors being that it was many multiples more virulent and contagious than seasonal Influenza.

As the writer of the article is a medical professional, that, along with a number of distortions of fact contained in the article, point to knowing deception, because if she doesn’t know the facts then she absolutely should. In fact, if I can find them easily, then anyone, whatever their expertise, can.
Just one will suffice, and being the one with data that’s now been in circulation for up to 20 months, this is the worst distortion of all:-

“I then looked to the mRNA vaccines. Early data from overseas showed some concerning safety signals and surprising evidence of similar transmission rates by both vaccinated and unvaccinated.”

As the first three vaccines in use here (Astra-Zeneca, Pfizer & Moderna) were all over 90% effective in preventing Covid-19, and with very rare incidence of serious adverse side effects (with numerous clinical trials available online), this is patently untrue. And while transmission is more of an issue since Omicron, with the vaccinated carrying viral loads almost as much as the unvaccinated, it’s the unvaccinated who are still the ones most at risk from infection. These are all facts that are easily established.

The bottom line: if you have to resort to such fabrications to try & make a case against lockdowns, then you really should leave it to those who have found a better argument.

In short, the article is a crock.

90% effective in preventing disease? How is that possible when Pfizer said they never tested this in the first place?

PS remember the whole love your neighbour push and that Christians get vaccinated to protect the vunerable? when it never stopped transmission?

        It’s called propoganda.

Dr Julie, it seems to me that your ‘blistering article’ (Warwick Marsh’s terms) was actually holding your ‘breath in’. Thank you so much for you calm candor in the face of what must have been a life shattering experience. Thank you for your stand; and may God keep you and protect you as He directs you into the future. Shalom, Jim

Each time I hear or read about the work of someone in the medical profession standing up for truth and for life some old wound in my arsenal of wound’s breathes in the fresh air of integrity and heals and I really do hear the words ” well done good and faithful servant “.
Thank you Julie you and your family are on my prayer list.

Thank you Dr Sladden for this. I wish more doctors would be more scientific and reasonable (not to mention courageous) about this like you. Thanks for those document you have included.
My doctor thought that my wife’s and my recent Covid infection would make us realise that we were foolish in not taking the vaccination, as if we believed that Covid did not exist. That is still the mindset of many medical professionals unfortunately. Anti-vaxxers are treated like ‘flat-leathers’ instead of those who have weighed the evidence..
Keep fighting for the truth. I’m so pleased that you re-registered.’

Very well articulated, thank you for sharing your personal and professional sadness at what the governments of Australia have done to you and your patients. My heart sinks at the thought that I fear our nation has lost far more than we realise.

    Thank you Dr Julie,

I am not a medical professional, just an early childhood educator and single mum who had a strong sense that nothing was adding up and something was very wrong.

I was terminated from two jobs within two hours, and joined the roller coaster ride alongside many Australians who also refused to blindly comply.

I and many others discovered that a very real God is a ‘very present help in time of need’, we got out of the boat and walked on water (it often felt like this), with wind and waves from every direction. He was God over the storm and I did not sink!

Many in the freedom community now have a personal experience that trust, faith and obedience to the leading of the spirit of God and letting go of the things in this world has gifted us with more than we need and opportunity to receive His rewards.
I can certainly testify to that!

Please continue to speak out, Australians need to wake up to the whole disconcerting truth. Only then will we be truly free.

Julie you are a true woman of integrity, a health professional of integrity…how we needed and still need more of them!
Yes, we never were anti vax before this, but now, like you, the Government made us so.
So many people we know have suffered death unexpectedly, or stroke, resurfacing of cancer. Even more worrying is the “they don’t know what is wrong” scenario….We have lost almost life long friendships, but nothing compared to you.
He is no man’s debtor; we however, are indebted to you and your family.

Marvellous! I so admire the Drs. on the front line for truth and “doing no harm”… I recently attended the DAM ( Drs Against Mandates) meeting in Bris…5 TOP pros…Psychiatist, Neurosurgeon, ObGyn Fertility Expert, GastroEnterologisy, Anaesthesiologist… 100 + years medical experience gathered there with more Drs in the audience… I also protest with Dr William Bay in King George SQ and outside the APHRA office…many are waking up. Thank God!

I am very disappointed with Kim Beazley’s response. I expected better from him. He said:

“The bottom line: if you have to resort to such fabrications to try & make a case against lockdowns, then you really should leave it to those who have found a better argument.
In short, the article is a crock.”

There is so much totalitarianism behind all this, but I won’t go there in this response. One major factor in Australia in the last two years has been the failure of both federal and state governments to be honest. The standard answer to all queries about legitimacy of health information has been “Trust us – we know what we are doing.” Apart from the fact that that is patent dictatorship, it is coming increasingly into the light that it is simply not true. I for one refuse to be a sheep. (Except that I belong to the Good Shepherd!).

    • Kim Beazley 3 October 2022 at 5:59 am - Reply

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but the facts are the facts.

(And as an aside, I wonder if you have this garden variety Kim Beazley mixed up with another more exotic one of the same name, perhaps?)

I’d invite you to look above the “bottom line” to where those facts are. Also, it should be obvious from my response that I wasn’t saying anything at all about the lockdowns, or of my own opinion of them, but about Dr Sladden’s argument against the lockdowns, which, as I made clear, is highly flawed.

  11. John Keegan 3 October 2022 at 10:49 am - Reply

Thanks Kim for your response. My proposal is that we look way above the bottom line, at the agenda. I note you have not commented on my reference to the legitimacy of health information.

    • Kim Beazley 4 October 2022 at 9:41 am - Reply

“I note you have not commented on my reference to the legitimacy of health information.”

As I said, you haven’t defined which health information you’re referring to. And besides, caricaturing every single response as “Trust us – we know what we are doing”, hardly helps your cause.

Besides, the fact that there is such a wealth of information freely available, which includes a whole host of peer reviewed clinical trials and research papers from around the globe that is independent, therefore refutes your claim of “patent dictatorship”.

So, if you ARE a sheep of the Good Shepherd, you will not resort to blinkered cynicism, as you have obviously done in this instance.

  12. Kim Beazley 3 October 2022 at 12:34 pm - Reply

Which health information do you not trust? Surely not the clinical trials. If you’re going to cast doubt on those, or in fact on any “health information”, then you have to cast doubt on the whole system, including every single medication available.

  13. Warwick Marsh 3 October 2022 at 4:44 pm - Reply

    Dear Kim
You are right. I now have serious doubts about the whole health system. I know many Doctors that share that view. Check out this newly released documentary called Safe & Effective https://youtu.be/dIVZ5ssWB-o

    • Kim Beazley 4 October 2022 at 8:32 am - Reply

I watched just over one third of this, and that was more than enough to see through the thin veneer of classic anti-vaxxer claims. Why couldn’t you?

In less than 20 minutes I witnessed at least 3-4 claims that were refuted in my own article on these issues, as well as in peer reviewed papers I’ve attached to comments. I also checked the credentials of people appearing on or quoted in it. For example, Alexandra Latypova is a known associate of notorious and often debunked anti-vaxxer Robert Kennedy Jnr.

In the video Latypova is quoted as saying, “Examination of leaked Moderna documents also revealed that vaccine-induced antibody-enhanced disease was identified as a serious risk”. Yet this is completely false, as can be seen at https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/91648 and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32785649/

      And that’s just one claim.

As For Dr Malhotra, he is already infamous for promoting a fad diet that the British Heart Foundation described as “misleading and wrong”, and the fad diet that he pushes, and makes a considerable income from, is described by the British Dietetic Association as one of the “top 5 worst celeb diets to avoid in 2018”. And during the pandemic he published a book called “The 21-Day Immunity Plan”, making claims that following the diet could quickly help people reduce their risk from the virus!

So if I can find this stuff out in such a short time, why can’t you? Why would you so blindly swallow the unsupported claims of quacks and other individuals whose claims are monetised like that? To be so taken in by these claims without pausing to consider or to cross check their claims is not what we’re encouraged to do as Christians.

And what’s worse is the fact that there are people who have experienced serious adverse effects. But to use those people in such a “documentary” to mount a spurious case against the vaccines is even more heartless. Fancy using those poor souls just to publicise something you’re using for personal financial gain by telling lies! The fact that they highlighted the Astra-Zeneca issue two years after it was dealt with, without a single mention of its extreme rarity, is highly misleading for a start.

So, I’m sure that if I wasted another hour or two of my life watching the rest of it, cross checking claims and taking notes, I’d only come up with more of the same. It’s a pity you didn’t do the same.

Bottom line: to conclude that there are now “serious doubts about the whole health system” from this, when it flies in the face of everything we already know, leaves only one conclusion. You have been hoodwinked!

I sincerely wish that you hadn’t, and equally sincerely hope that you start checking these things out both ways, not just confirming your own biased suspicions.

Thank you, Dr Julie Sladden, for speaking out directly and openly. It is time we all wake up. Much harm has been caused by the mandates and manipulation. I hope we will soon have enlightened, independent new people in power.

  15. John Keegan 5 October 2022 at 9:19 pm - Reply

To you Kim I offer this further comment for clarity. When I refer to the legitimacy of health information, I am saying that, when state or federal government or health leaders have been asked to produce the specific health evidence on which the mandates have been put in place, they have failed to do so. I hope you will agree that does not inspire trust.

    • Kim Beazley 6 October 2022 at 9:03 am - Reply

      Thanks for the clarity.

From what I know, the mandates were all State policies for which the Federal Government had no say. Of course, they did have authority over Federal employees, but beyond that I don’t think so.

My personal view is that some vaccine mandates, especially in the field of health and medicine, were absolutely vital. In fact, as I’m requiring rehab therapy at my local hospital for a recent hip replacement, and I STILL am required to wear a mask (I HATE masks!!! – can’t breathe in the damn things!!), and my local GP still requires my vaccination status. Without elaborating, I can understand these and have no issue complying.

For other professions, I do have a problem, and especially when the vaccine mandates, even here in NSW, were kept in place long after everything else was lifted. As my wife is a teacher, that’s one profession that, even if a justification for the vaccine mandates can be mounted, it went way past its “use by date”.

Does this cause me to lose trust? Not at all. But what it DOES cause in my mind is to realise once again that our leaders are mere flesh and blood, just as we are, and although they function (or should do so) at a higher level of expertise than the average person, they are still prone to the same pressures as us, yet at a level that’s magnified off the scale.

So I actually EXPECT them to make mistakes, and then they don’t upset me when they do. But what that does is allow me to not be angry or upset at the mistake, but to look at the situation more calmly and objectively.

So, in short, as there was no shortage of data and evidence coming out of both State and Federal jurisdictions, why not allow for any inconsistency to be just that – inconsistency. Any suspicion the other way just leads down an ever more convoluted conspiracy theory rabbit hole.

Thank you Dr Sladden for standing up for justice and integrity, and for having the courage to publish it. i take my hat off to you and the many health professionals who have done so, even at the cost of losing their jobs.

  17. Sandy Duncan 27 January 2023 at 3:58 am - Reply

The cdc article she says claims the “(CDC) has announced no difference between vaccinated and unvaccinated as the vaccines don’t prevent infection or transmission.” Doesn’t say what she claims it says. At least I couldn’t find it. Its a long article and maybe she counts on everyone being too darned lazy to actually read the whole thing. Just that one false claim in her article makes me doubt the entire thing. I’d go elsewhere for your medical news.
