Albanese Invokes the Spirit of Australia
The Albanese government blocked a bid by Qantas rival Qatar Airlines for extra flights in and out of Australia.
Next minute, a special ceremony is being held to show off Qantas planes painted in the ‘Yes’ campaign livery.
Now, I’m not saying there’s any connection.
Nor am I saying the sky is blue. (wink)
Qantas Chairman Alan Joyce — who has delighted in turning the Flying Kangaroo into a Flying Billboard for Woke Social Justice Causes — announced that three planes would carry the ‘Yes’ logo.
You have to wonder about Joyce’s commitment to reconciliation when he only paints three of more than 100 Labor jets with the ‘Yes’ logo, but whatever.
Virtue-Signalling
Albanese, speaking at the launch, told the crowd:
“The Spirit of Australia says ‘Yes’.”
It’s years since Qantas could lay claim to being “The Spirit of Australia”.
I remember when Australians were proud of Qantas. These days, Qantas is the cringe of Australia.
The Spirit of Australia is not a few jets decked out in Gay Pride livery one moment and Voice livery the next — reflecting left-wing progressive whims in return for anti-competition corporate protectionism.
The Spirit of Australia is the people of Australia and, according to all the polls, the people of Australia are leaning heavily toward saying ‘No’.
But like a pre-flight safety talk, Albanese would not be interrupted. He carried on:
“ … and the Spirit of Australia says ‘Yes’ because this will assist reconciliation in a practical way.”
And if you believe that, you probably book Jetstar flights believing you’ll be arriving at your destination on time.
Albanese, proudly pointing to the carbon-belching planes behind him, insisted:
“They’ll be flying across our skies, encouraging Australians to have a conversation about what constitutional recognition will mean for our country.”
I hope the ‘Yes’ campaign is buying offsets for all those reconciliation frequent flyer emissions.
But despite worsening Global Boiling, I guess it makes sense for Albo and Joyce to put their message on aeroplanes, since our cultural and political elites do like to talk down to us.
Crash-Landing
Wait. Does the PM seriously imagine we will look up into the sky, see a woke plane flying overhead and strike up a conversation about the Constitution?
‘Did you see the fuselage of that Boeing 737? It got me thinking about what constitutional change will mean for Anthony Albanese’s place in Australian history,’ said no one, ever.
Albo wasn’t done:
“By listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on matters that affect them, we can improve lives. That’s what the Voice will do.”
Apparently, the Albanese government is completely deaf without constitutional change. That’s what comes from loitering around Qantas hangers hoping for Alan Joyce to turn his planes into political signs.
It’s a great partnership. Qantas can’t be relied on to look after my luggage. And the Albanese government can’t be relied on to look after the economy. Dumb and dumber telling us how to run the country.
Sorry Anthony and Alan, I don’t mean any disrespect. But virtue-signalling by big corporations that took huge amounts of taxpayer dollars during the pandemic and, in return, provide crappy customer service while lobbying for monopolisation of the market doesn’t really inspire me.
But then again, Mr Albanese, I may look up into the sky and — seeing one of your preachy planes — turn my mind toward voting… at the next Federal election… which will be a second big ‘No’ from me to you.
